Biography
Gastroenterology is the study of the normal function and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, and rectum, as well as the pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts, and liver, which requires a thorough understanding of the normal functioning of the gastrointestinal organs.
It includes common and important disorders such as colon polyps and cancer, hepatitis, gastroesophageal reflux, peptic ulcers, colitis, gallbladder and biliary tract diseases, nutritional problems, irritable bowel syndrome, and pancreatitis. Essentially, all normal functions and diseases of the digestive organs are part of the field of gastroenterology.
